The selection process is divided into three stages: first qualifier, second qualifier, and final qualifier. The second round includes the 24 players who passed the first round and the top 24 players (ranked 8-31) among the applicants. These 48 players will compete in three rounds of the tournament to determine the six finalists.
In the final stage, the Final Qualifier, the 6 players who passed the Second Qualifier and the top 6 ranked players (2nd-7th) will compete in a 3-round tournament to select the 3 protagonists of the Taegeukmark.
Of the five-member team, the top-ranked Shin Shin Seo 9 will automatically qualify, and one wild card will be selected after the selection process. The tournament, dubbed the Three Kingdoms of Go, will begin in October in Beijing, China.
From this year, the Nongshim Shin Ramyun will be held in conjunction with the Baeksan Super Senior World Go Championship, and players will not be able to compete in both events. The selection for the Baeksan Go, which is open to players born before 1969, will be held in August.
