“I’m excited, I’m nervous”
The Orions have been together since the early days of professional basketball. They played in Daegu Metropolitan City until 2010, utilized Goyang Special City as their home court from 2011, and played alongside Goyang fans until 2022.
However, Orion ended its operations after the 2021-2022 season. Dayone Sports became the new owner. With Carot Insurance as its naming sponsor, the new organization was renamed the Goyang Carot Jumpers.
There was one player who was unfamiliar with the name Carot. It’s Jeon Sung-hwan (178 cm, G). He was drafted by the Orion with the 4th overall pick in the 2019 KBL Domestic Rookie Draft. He was also recognized as the first rotation pick from Sangmyung University.
After serving in the military after the 2020-2021 season, Jeon was discharged during the 2022-2023 season. However, he didn’t make the roster. He could only train with his teammates.
Even that wasn’t allowed. His team, Day One Sports, was expelled from the KBL due to ongoing financial difficulties. Jeon lost his team to Zolji. Although the KBL provided an off-season workout environment, former Day One Sports players, including Jeon, had to work out without a coaching staff.
“It was individualized training,” says Jeon, “but the players helped each other a lot. The unity among the players became better. It created a comfortable workout atmosphere, and I was able to work out comfortably as well,” he said, reflecting on the past month.
However, a new company appeared to erase the pain of Day One Sports. Sono International has submitted a letter of intent to the KBL to create a 10-team league. If it passes the board of directors and extraordinary general meeting on the 21st, it will become a new member of the KBL. If that happens, Jeon will become a member of Sono International.
“I’ve prepared myself, and I’m ready for the opportunity. However, the word ‘disqualification’ didn’t make me happy. However, there was a team that submitted a letter of intent. I think it’s a good thing,” he said, expressing relief at Sono International’s decision.
When Sono International becomes the 10th team in the KBL, the players, including Jeon Sung-hwan, will have to prepare in earnest. Since it’s later than others, they have to spend more time on the court than others. This is especially true for Jeon, who has never played before.
“While I was in the military, I maximized my body. I worked out nonstop. But this is my first time working with coach Kim Seung-ki. I have to fulfill his orders as much as possible,” he said, emphasizing the importance of off-season preparation.
메이저사이트 Finally, he said, “I’m excited and worried. But my brothers help me so much. They take care of me financially, and they tell me to go to the gym with them. I’m very grateful, so I think I can do better.” Although he was worried about his lack of game sense and physical fitness, his brothers’ support gave him confidence.
