Daria Kasatkina (No. 9-RUSSIA), who finished fourth at last year’s French Open, her best major finish, is the first player to reach the round of 16 in the women’s singles.
Kasatkina defeated Peyton Stearns (69th-ranked USA) 2-0 (6-0 6-1) in just 55 minutes in the third round of the women’s singles match on day six of the French Open tennis tournament (€49.6 million – $70.6 million) at Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France.
A quarterfinalist last year, Kasatkina is no stranger to the French Open on clay, having won the junior singles title at the event in 2014.
Currently the highest-ranked Russian player in the world, he also came out as gay in July last year, announcing that he was in a relationship with figure skater Natalia Zabiyako.
Third-seeded Jessica Pegula (No. 3-USA) was knocked out in the third round by Eliezer Mertens (No. 28-Belgium), losing 0-2 (1-6 3-6).
Pegula, who was born in South Korea and adopted to the United States by her mother, Kim Pegula, was unable to match her best major quarterfinal finish 안전놀이터.
Pegula reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open three years in a row from 2021 to this year, and also reached the quarterfinals at the French Open and US Open last year. Her best Wimbledon finish was the third round (round of 32) last year.
Kasatkina will play the winner of the Anna Blinkova (No. 56-Russia)-Elina Svitolina (No. 192-Ukraine) match, while Mertens will play the winner of the Anastasiya Potapova (No. 25)-Anastasiya Pavlyuchenkova (No. 333-Russia) match.
