Stefano Labarini has abruptly parted ways with Italian club Novara. Turkiye Fenerbahçe is now the favourite to take over.
Lavarini had been in charge of Novara since 2020 and had signed a new contract earlier this year. His contract ran until June 2024. However, Novara announced on its official website on the 25th of this month that it had “agreed with Coach Labarini to terminate his contract by mutual consent”.
Novara’s announcement is a significant sign.
In recent days, Fenerbahçe coach Zoran Terzić has been linked with a move away from the club, with Daniele Santarelli and Lavarini both being mentioned as possible candidates.
Santarelli, in particular, has taken over from Giovanni Guidetti as head coach of the Turkiye women’s national volleyball team. Santarelli’s departure to Fenerbahçe has also been suggested, and there have even been reports of a move to Fenerbahçe for current club Imoco Corneliano’s star setter Joanna Bowsch. However, she chose to stay.
“Coach Labarini and Fenerbahçe have reached an agreement on a contract,” Turktime reported on 25 May.
Fenerbahçe finished top of the Turkic League in the 2022-23 season and finished third in the CEV Champions League. The season ended on 12 December with the third game of the Turkic League Finals against Exzabat. Fenerbahçe has also been busy.
“Fenerbahçe wanted to hire Santarelli, who recently took charge of the Turkiye women’s national volleyball team, and Lavarini was also on the shortlist. Fenerbahçe, which is preparing to part ways with coach Zoran Terzić, is close to reaching an agreement with Lavarini.”
Fenerbahçe is a competitive team in the Turkkiye League and on the European stage. They are the clear favourites to win the title. It will be interesting to see if Lavarini will take on a new challenge in the Turkkiye after his stints in Italy and Brazil. 먹튀검증
Meanwhile, Labarini led the South Korean women’s national team to the quarter-finals of the Tokyo Olympics and has been in charge of the Polish women’s national team since 2022. The two teams will meet again this year as international foes.
