Hwang Hee-chan (27, Wolverhampton) and Son Heung-min (31, Tottenham) will be responsible for Tottenham’s left and right wings. Tottenham is keeping an eye on Hwang Hee-chan, who is in the midst of transfer rumors.
Britain’s ‘Mirror’ reported on Aug. 28 (KST), “Tottenham and Newcastle are looking to capitalize on Wolverhampton’s problems to make a surprise move. Hwang has attracted interest from several Premier League teams this summer, including the two clubs.”
It’s looking increasingly likely that Hwang will part ways with Wolverhampton at the end of the season. The reason: the club’s finances. Wolverhampton are reportedly in need of a squad overhaul to comply with Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.
Hwang Hee-chan is being talked about as one of the possible sellers. Some names have already emerged. “Newcastle and Aston Villa are targeting Hwang as they look to bolster their squads,” said Alan Nixon, a reporter for “The Sun” in the United Kingdom, adding that “AS Roma under Jose Mourinho also want him.
Now, Tottenham are also reportedly keeping an eye on Hwang. “Tottenham and Newcastle are keeping tabs on Hwang, along with a number of other clubs,” says the Mirror. “Wolverhampton are under pressure to overhaul their squad and Hwang has impressed in the closing stages of the season as they battle for survival,” said the Mirror.
“Hwang has now attracted interest from Tottenham, where his South Korean teammate Son Heung-min plays. Newcastle, who will compete in the UEFA Champions League next season, have also sent inquiries to bolster their attacking line. Villa and AS Roma are also interested in Hwang ‘Bull’ Hee-chan.”
Hwang has struggled with injuries this season, playing just 1058 minutes in 26 league games. However, he has caught the eye with his flashes of brilliance on the pitch and has been on fire down the stretch, scoring three goals and providing one assist. Wolverhampton manager Julen Lopetegui has also put his faith in him.
However, Lopetegui doesn’t want to part ways with Hwang. If captain Ruben Neves and midfielder Mateusz Nunes leave the team first, he could keep Hwang.
“Lopetegui does not want to lose the pacey striker with Neves likely to leave and Nunes attracting interest from Liverpool,” says the Mirror, “He wants all transfer business to be finalized as soon as possible. “Lopetegui wants all business to be finalized as soon as possible.” Teams chasing Hwang will have to act fast in the coming weeks.
If Hwang does pull on a Tottenham shirt, he will join Son Heung-min as a Premier League “Korean duo”. In the past, Park Ji-Sung and Yoon Seok-Young (QPR) and Ki Sung-Yong and Ji-Dong-Won (Sunderland) have teamed up in the Premier League 먹튀검증.
The pairing of Hwang Hee-chan and Son Heung-min will be especially anticipated as they teamed up for the ‘Miracle of Alayan’ at the last World Cup in Qatar. At the time, South Korea needed a win against Portugal to advance to the round of 16, but they were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation time.
In a crunch moment, the two players wasted no time in capitalizing on a counterattack opportunity in second-half stoppage time. A masked Son Heung-min sprinted nearly 70 meters before crossing the ball to Hwang Hee-chan, who scored a dramatic comeback goal to complete a miraculous run to the round of 16.
